LIGHTSOUND HAS MADE AN IMPRESSION

9th September 09

The first 11 local LIGHTSOUND urban space projects have naturally made temporary impressions most places.

But even though cyclists are no longer seen biking around at Frederiksberg, attentively seeking out hidden details and mysterious adventures, the stories from Rider Spoke are still there, as annotated invisible pockets in the neighbourhood of Søndermarken. The old harbour areas in Elsinore and Køge no longer host spectacular performances and submarine ballets, but the vision of flames, dancers and multimedia performances may still linger on, when the local inhabitants take a stroll along the piers.

Some of the projects have even been so succesfull, that they may become permanent installations: One of them is the project by the Dutch artist Tamar Frank - her work has added a remarcably playful light to the tunnels in Albertslund.

There is no doubt that LIGHTSOUND have made an impression in the regions' urban spaces. And this impression becomes quite literal in Byparken, Ørestad City. Here, Architects of Air's luminaria sculpture has left a pattern which raises the question whether the magical light labyrinth was in fact a visit from outer space.

It isn't over yet though: By February 2010 the second round of the LIGHTSOUND urban space projects will be presented, more accurately from 10-28 February.

Until then, the learning process in the LIGHTSOUND project is continued through interdisciplinary seminars, workshops and evaluations, all of which are essential for the partners in the project before, inbetween and after the public urban space projects.

Thereby the main focus in LIGHTSOUND remains on initiating a municipal praxis within creative urban planning, that involves artists, creative industries, urban planners and municipalities.

You still have the opportunity to go on a sound journey to a forgotten time, when the last of the LIGHTSOUND projects in august, Royal Sound Art, has its last performance in Hellerup on September 18th...
